An opening reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The exhibit will remain on display at the Framemaker throughout the month of September during normal business hours (Mon. through Fri. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.).

Kim Balevre received a bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communication from Austin Peay State University (APSU) in 2008. She currently works as a graphic designer in the public relations and marketing department at Austin Peay State University. According to Kim, her exhibit, “Downstream” conveys the experience of floating on water, through time and away from reality.

Mollie Downton is a certified special education teacher and is currently pursuing admission to graduate school to earn her certification in art therapy and her licensure as a mental health provider. According to Mollie, “The reason I do art is because I find it to be an emotional release and satisfying process. I simply want people to find my work oddly beautiful and interesting. It is an added bonus if people can further relate to it on an emotional level.”

In addition, a special memorial exhibition featuring the work of Thomas Lott will be featured. Lott’s mother, Rita Wilson states, “For Thomas, there were so many things he wanted to see, places to go, more people to meet, one more book to read, and that elusive photo he wanted to capture. Mostly he lived in the fast lane trying to do it all. Although he was only 30, he had lived a full life and he was weary.”

Shadows of the Light Body, Photographs by Mitzi Cross and Malcolm Glass at the Framemaker

Cross_Glass.jpg

Photography by Mitzi Cross and retired APSU Professor Malcolm Glass will be on exhibit at The Framemaker as part of Clarksville’s First Thursday Art Walk on Thursday, June 7, 2012. An opening reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The exhibit, titled “Shadows of the Light Body,” will remain on display at the Framemaker throughout the month of June during normal business hours (Mon. through Fri. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.).

Malcolm Glass is co-founder of the one of the South’s pre-eminent poetry journals, Zone 3. He served as an APSU Professor of English from 1962 to 1999.

Cross and Glass have shown their work in numerous galleries and juried exhibitions in the mid-south. The exhibition of portraits and figure studies of women focuses on alternative photographic processes such as solarizations, hand-colored photographs, and bromoil prints. Also featured is a series of works that emulate well-known paintings. Most of the photographs in the exhibit are one-of-a-kind works.

Author and photographer Malcolm Glass writes, “My hope as an artist is to reveal far more than surface line and contour, more than the modeling of bone and muscle. The female figure is the ultimate challenge for an artist because beneath the lovely surface lies the mystery of woman and the power of the feminine.”

Artist Mitzi Cross states, “Like Man Ray, I tend to depend more on ‘inspiration than information.’ Although these processes are highly technical, it is the element of chance and discovery that motivates my explorations. I hope that these processes enhance and illuminate my original perception of the feminine and the ephemeral beauty of women.

Professor Suta Lee Presents “Bather” at the Framemaker

SutaBather4.jpg

Suta Lee, Associate Professor of Painting at APSU, is the featured artist at The Framemaker as part of Clarksville’s First Thursday Art Walk on Thursday, March 1, 2012. An opening reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The exhibit, titled “Bather,” will remain on display at the Framemaker throughout the month of March during normal business hours (Mon. through Fri. 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.).

According to Lee, “In the past, the bather has been a constant subject in painting. Artists have tried to describe, imply or react to human bodies, often in or near the water. The human form as a subject provides infinite possibilities for artists. Watercolors seems fitting for this subject matter as they provide fluidity that yet can be stormy at times. These paintings represent the small pleasures one can have on any given Sunday afternoon, preferably on a rainy day.”
