Professor Bryant Included in “The Art of Photography 2013″ at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego

Professor Susan Bryant’s photograph “Hand Collection” was selected to be included in The Art of Photography Show 2013 at The Museum of Contemporary Art in San Diego, CA.  The juror for this exhibition, Dr. Julia Dolan, Curator of Photography at the Portland Art Museum, selected 201 pieces from 12,961 entries from 84 countries. The exhibit runs from October 12 – November 17, 2013.

Professor Bryant’s photograph is a 14” x 18” gelatin silver print made by enlarging a 4” x 5” glass negative which she made using the 19th century wet plate collodion process. The photograph was made in 201l and funded by Austin Peay’s Summer Faculty Research Program. Professor Bryant was awarded a second grant from the SFRP in the spring of 2013 and is currently expanding the body of work; making tintypes, ambrotypes ,enlargements from glass negatives and digital prints from scanned plates.of still-lifes and portraits in her back yard studio and basement darkroom.

Professor Bryant will present her work as part of the 2013-2014 Provost Lecture Series on October 3rd at 3:00 p.m. in UC 303.
